Welcome to Unity Preschool

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Spiritual Growth & Development

Developed by our teaching staff and supplemented with Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) children's christian educational resources, Bible curriculum is implemented into the daily and/or weekly schedules to meet the current interests and needs of the children. Biblical stories and concepts, prayer and character traits are woven into Circle Time, Center Time, small/llarge group activities, and social interactions. Our goal is to introduce our children to stories in the Bible and to help them understand that God loves them very much.

CHAPEL: Our Preschool Director, Ms. Linda, directs our Chapel program for our Three's and Four's classes once a month.   Chapel is a very special time of worship and praise.  Our Chapel theme is "Fruit of the Spirit." We have fun learning about the nine special kinds of "fruit" or character traits that grow in us as we learn to love God with all of our heart.

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23

Playball

Playball is offered each Wednesday for our classes. Playball is a sport and movement program for children of all athletic abilities. It provides a broad introduction to physical activity as well as developing and refining skills used in a variety of sports.  Our Playball coaches love to bring new and exciting lesson plans to our children each week. For detailed information about the Playball  program: http://www.usaplayball.com/

Music

Music is incorporated in all of our classes on a daily basis. Ms. Danielle, our Older Two's Lead Teacher, provides a special music class for our Four's children on Mondays.  Our active music lessons involve a mix of singing, instrument play, dancing and movement, story time, and other activities.  Our Staff brings a love for children and talent for music together to enrich your child's development and foster a life-long love of music.

Storyteller

Once a month, our children are enriched and entertained by Ms. Jane, The Storyteller.  Ms. Jane Merlo tells stories using the felt board, magnetic board, puppets and almost anything that helps her share her enthusiasm and love for reading with our children.  Ms. Jane is a certified teacher and former Preschool Director who loves to read, cross stitch and garden.

Bookmobile

The York County Library Bookmobile (the "Book Bus") visits us twice a month on Tuesday.  The children enjoy choosing a book for their use in the classroom and listening to stories from the librarians who visit.

Spirit Days

Typically, on the last Thursday of each month, we have a SPIRIT DAY .  On each SPIRIT DAY, we have a theme and enjoy fun and engaging activities with the children.  The days for the 2021-22 winter/spring include:

January 27: Team Day - Wear a shirt of your favorite team (professional or college - any sport). We will be reading stories about teamwork and working together on some fun art activities and games that require teamwork.

February 22: TwosDay -  We have some fun activities planned on this fun day of Tuesday - 2/22/22 including a visit from our Storyteller, Ms. Jane. Plan to wear tutu's, t-shirts and ties to school that day.

March 31: Kindness Day - Unity Preschool is "WILD" about Kindness.  Wear animal print or shirts with animals and we will be doing some amazing projects to spread kindness to others in our church family.

April 28: Name Day -  Wear something with your name or monogram and we will be reading Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes and talking about our names and how special they are.

Family Events

We are hopeful that we can host some fun family events during the school year provided COVID protocols allow for such gatherings.  We hope to have a Family Picnic in our Park in the fall and spring.  We also look foward to welcoming Guest Readers in the our Three's and Four's classrooms next year.
